Summary

Earlier in the year we had a great weekend doing Crib Goch ridge as part of the Snowdon Horseshoe. Since so many of you seemed to like scrambling I thought we should try and do more of the classic UK scrambles and this weekend should provide some fun for thrill seekers.

Our accommodation is Glan Dwr Mountain Lodge, somewhere we have used twice before and ideally situated in Capel Curig, just a short drive from the most famous peaks in Snowdonia National Park. The accommodation is limited to 20 beds and the trip is likely to be very popular so book early if you want to be sure of a place.

On Saturday we will visit the Carneddau range for a superb ridge walk. The 9 mile (14.5km) walk involves 1116 metres of ascent and is likely to take 7 hours to complete. The route includes the summits of Carnedd Dafydd (1040m), Carnedd Llewelyn (1064m) and Yr Elen (962m).

On Sunday we will do Tryfan and the Glyders or Glyderau as the Welsh would say. Our route up Tryfan is via the North Face which is a Grade 1 scramble. Once at the top people are free to jump between the Adam and Eve stones which makes for a great daredevil photo. The route then heads to Glyder Fach via Bristly Ridge, another Grade 1 scramble. Between Glyder Fach and Glyder Fawr is another classic photo opportunity, the Cantilever Stone. The route back down is via Devil’s Kitchen. All in all this is one classic UK mountain day, only 6 miles but with 1010 metres of ascent and plenty to test us. For a large group it could take 5 hours to complete.
