Summary

For this weekend we will be heading to the Mendip Hills, classified as an AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). Our accommodation will be Nordrach Cottage which belongs to a local caving club. It sleeps 30 but we have booked 24 beds as the weekend we will be there 6 club members will also be using it. The cottage is basic but comfortable with bedrooms sleeping 16, 8 and 6 so we cannot guarantee a single sex dorm for everyone. The cottage has lounge with multi fuel stove, electric storage heating, fully equipped kitchen and hot showers.

On the Saturday the group will be walking in the Mendip Hills. The walk will include the highest point in the Mendips, Black Down which provides excellent views of the surrounding countryside.

On Sunday we will offer the group a choice of activities but you need to let us know in advance so we can make arrangements. Since caving is so good locally we will try caving. A good beginner cave is Goatchurch Cavern which will offer us short climbs, crawls, squeezes as well as large chambers we can walk around in. The 2 hour session will be led by Adventure Caving who will provide all equipment and will charge £20.00 per person. I’m currently researching the 2nd option but if will be either abseiling, climbing or some team challenge that requires people to do tasks and use their initiative. I will add this second option and cost in the coming days.
