The Whitstable Oyster Festival is an annual event held to celebrate the Oyster industry which Whitstable is famous for. This year the festival takes place between 27th July and 2nd August so we have decided to visit during the opening day. As well as having time to soak up the atmosphere of the festival and try oysters yourself we will also lead a coastal walk on the Saxon Shore Way to Herne Bay which is just over 8km away. Depending on the amount of time you want to spend in Whitstable you have a few options when we reach Herne Bay. Option 1 is to try a boat trip which costs £22.00 and lasts 90 minutes which visits a Victorian Pier, Wind Farm and the Shivering Sands Forts. Option 2 is to walk back to Whitstable for a total distance of 16km and option 3 is to catch a bus back to Whitstable where you can spend more time at the festival.
The train tickets are cheap day returns so we can catch various trains back and the journey time to Victoria is about 90 minutes.
