Canoeing
Many of our members enjoy canoeing, both here in the UK and overseas. At the moment we do not take part in competitive canoeing as we like to take our time and explore the rivers we canoe. We do not own our own canoes or equipment as we currently only organise a few canoe trips each year and it makes more sense to hire them.
An ideal river to start on is the River Wye which is gentle, scenic and has lots of places where you can hire canoes and a good selection of campsites on the banks of the river. Another UK river we have organised trips for is The River Severn.
The group does also try and arrange canoe trips overseas. France is an ideal choice with some amazing scenery and good facilities on rivers such as The Ardeche, The Lot and The Tarn.
The Canoes we hire are usually designed for 2 people and will also take a couple of waterproof barrels which are used to store all our gear including camping equipment. Most of our trips are suitable for beginners who are able to swim. Normally we pair a beginner with someone with more experience with the more experienced person starting in the back of the canoe to control the steering until the beginner feels more confident.
If you have an interest in canoeing why not get in touch, we are particularly looking for people who can help organise events for the programme.
