About Us

The London Adventure Group began in July 2008. Many of our initial members were formerly members of Heathrow Hikers, a hiking group which organised hundreds of trips in the UK and overseas over a 4 year period. The new group plans to continue to offer hiking trips but will also begin to organise more cycling and watersports events.

Some of our members have years of experience organising outdoor events which includes navigation skills and first aid training. We are always happy to share this knowledge with new members wanting to gain experience and confidence in the outdoors.

Unlike many other outdoor groups we do not charge a membership fee. Our overheads are low and our main aim is to offer quality outdoor events at the best price possible. To keep costs low we try and share transport expenses and we use budget accommodation including:

Youth Hostels

For many of our trips we have sole use of the hostels we book. We use independent hostels and those operated by the Youth Hostels Association. We pay for YHA group membership, one of the benefits of which is that we can get non YHA members into hostels at the cheaper membership rate. Most hostels we use provide all the linen, where a sleeping bag is required our website will clearly state.

Camping

Camping is popular among many of our members, mainly in the Spring and Summer. Camping trips can either be on official campsites with all the usual shower and toilet facilities or it could be wild camping in mountain locations. We have also previously used more 'upmarket' camping options like a tipi (tepee), yurts and campervans.

Bothy

A bothy is a basic mountain hut, usually unlocked for people to use without charge. A basic fireplace for heating and cooking is usually provided. Most bothies in the UK are looked after by the Mountain Bothies Association.

Cottages and Lodges

Outside the peak season cottages and lodges can be a cost effective option. Such properties typically only sleep 2 to a room and can often include a hot tub or sauna.
